We had so much fun over the last few weeks that I made one blog with many pics showing our adventures. We had dinner with friends at BJ's. spent a day in China town, visitied the ronald Reagan library in Simi Valley and went the the Open House at NASA'a Jet Propulsion Laboratory (it was free...hehe), but so crowded.

We went wine tasting at Agua Dulce Vineyards last weekend. I have discovered that I don't like real wine, it's so bitter. We were so dissatisfied with the aged grape juice that we went to a restaurant and got sloshed on margaritas and Heinekens afterwards. I didn't know that I had such a cheap tongue with no taste for sophisticated beverages

On another note my Dad is throwing a fit again. He is returning my letters unopened. I go through this with him about every year or so. I call and apologize for whatever I did to upset him. He gets mad if I don't call him every month or two. How immature. I guess it would KILL him to pick up the phone and call me for once.

A day at the park.

It was college service night on campus for my Astronomy class. We took the telescopes out to the quad and invited passing students to take a look at the moon, Venus or Saturn. I asked Art, Baz and Adeleigh to visit me on campus that night. It was so much fun to show off my son to my lab partners and have my family there with me. There was also an Art show on campus that night as well. It was such a neat experience. I love college. Here is a pic of the little guy running around campus.

I had such a fun week with Adeleigh. We went to Universal Studios, China Town, played tennis, had fun at Peter Piper, went to the park, Library and a Fiesta. Thanks for visiting me Sis. Lets do it again soon.

A Day At Universal Studios Hollywood

We spent the day at Universal Studios. If you buy admission for one day you get the year free, so it was worth it. Even considering that there isn't a whole lot to do there. There are only three rides, none of which are children's rides. There are a quite a few shows to see. Most of the shows have been running for the past 8 years or more. So we spent a good part of the day hugging Nickelodeon characters as you can see here. Of course we spent some quality time with our fav; Mr. Square pants himself! It was a great place to spend the day, have some lunch and stroll through City Walk. For more pics of us having fun at Universal, check out Art's blog.

It was a Sponge Bob Birthday party! We celebrated Baz's second B-day at my Mother's house last weekend. I wanted to post a picture of her and my sister jumping around in the Sponge Bob Bounce House, but I wasn't sure if she would like it. We had Sponge Bob cake, a Sponge Bob pinata and Sponge Bob goody bags. We also had a Sponge Bob DVD playing on the TV. It was a lot of fun. Since I had my son, I had been looking forward to throwing parties, and going to parties. It was great, I can't wait till next year.

The Griffith Observatory

The Griffith Observatory opened , free to the public, in 1935, built on land donated by Griffith J. Griffith. The observatory was closed in January 2002 to undergo a 93 million dollar renovation. A second level was added under the main floor to preserve the outside appearance of the observatory. Reopened in November of 2006, the hype resulted in an overflow of visitors. I don't know why. I was disappointed with the exhibits. Nothing exciting or interactive! A 20 minute wait for the shuttle ride there and back, no quick stroller accesses, hidden elevators and small hallways made my visit unsatisfactory. Not exactly a great place to take toddlers. Leonard Nimoy donated a million dollars to open the Event Horizon Theater on premise that shows a short film about the renovations made over the last 4 years. Whup De Do! That's what I get, what can you expect for free admission? This statue of Einstein was the most exciting thing I saw that day.

I finally did it. After dropping out of college 6 years ago, I finally re-enrolled and registered for classes at the local community college. I was only 8 classes away from graduating when I dropped out back in 2001 to go to Pharmacy Technician school. I have been yearning to go back to school, I even dream about it. I know I have a lot on my plate, studying to get re-certified as a pharm tech, then looking for a job, taking classes, cooking dinner taking care of my son... But it'll be great! I'm so scared and excited. I've been wanting this for years, I just hope I don't drop out again.

Day At The Museum

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles is actually more fun than it sounds. Our son has become fascinated with dinosaurs, so I thought it would be a neat place to take him. There aren't as many dino skeletons as I thought there would be. The museum is currently trying to raise money for a larger dinosaur exhibit. Nevertheless, it was a lot of fun, educational and a great way to spend a rainy Saturday.

Let's All Go To The Movies

We took our 22 month old son to the movies for the first time to see Happy Feet. You never know if it is going to be a good or bad experience when taking a toddler to the movies. Overall, he was really good. But considering that it was a two hour movie, he didn't stand a chance of making it through quietly. It was a really cute movie! Maybe I liked it so much cause it has been years since I've actually been to a movie theater. I told myself I wouldn't try to take Baz to a theater again till was three. However, since Baz is under two years of age, and gets free admission, we will be going to the movies again next month.

Baz and I went with his school on a field trip to the Underwood Family Farm today. It is such a great place to take kids. We took a tractor ride around the fields, got lost in a corn maze and fed some stinky animals. And they have this really neat goat walk type thing (see below). Watch out for falling goats!

We are going to Vegas this weekend. So I am doing my 55 early.

Ode To Vegas:
Twinkling lights as far as one can see. Slot machines for miles to eat up all my money. Showgirls and acts to entertain me endlessly. Rollercoasters and rides in the sky to make me queesy. Dolphins, animals, flamingos and tigers, wax figures of Angelina Jolie. Have as much fun as I can in Sin City.

Planning on riding some coasters.

My son received his first professional haircut recently. I usually cut it myself, but due to a hair trimming accident (cutting bangs way too short during last cut) I decided to take him to a salon. I called a children's hair salon equiped with balloons, racing car chairs, cookies, popcorn and distracting televisions. $22 for a kid's haircut! I don't even pay that much to get my hair cut. So, I took him to the place I go. Only $8 for a cut. It turned out that all the distractions wern't necessary. I just had to beleive that he would behave in the barber's chair, and he did!

My rendition of "The Scream"

A man stands on a bridge, admiring a tangerine sunset. Two strangers walking closer, visible in the distance. Both wearing oversized coats. Troubling looks upon their face. The taller stranger bumps into the innocent passerby. He turns around and exscuses himself. The passerby accepts the apology. "Oh no, where is my wallet, it was stolen!!"

We attended the weekly Farmer's Market on Wednesday night in the local mall parking lot. It is pretty fun if you like fresh fruit, different foods and petting zoo's. I had a delicious Teriyaki Chicken bowl that was to die for. Baz went on a $5 pony ride that only lasted 90 seconds. For $3 they let you touch a goat. I didn't want to pay $3 for Baz to catch a disease, so we passed on that. It was fun and overcrowded, just my type of thing. Must do it again soon, I guess. It is hard to find a good chicken bowl.

The Magic Kingdom

We took Baz to Disneyland for the first time. I feared that the rides would scare him, boy I was wrong. On the contrary, he cried when it was time to get off the rides. Here he is admiring the large mouse. When I told him it was a mouse, he called him Cha Cheese (Chuck E Cheese), I had to explain that this was a different, large mouse.

I used to think child leashes were cruel, but I realized they come in handy in crowded places like amusement parks. It doesn't seem so cruel when the leash is disguised as a puppy backpack (see below).

The Getty Museum

At an early attempt to culturaize Baz, Art and I dragged our son to the Getty Museum this Labor Day weekend. The museum doesn't charge admission, only $7 for parking. So it definetly worth the money. We pulled ourselves out of bed very early and arrived before the door opened in hopes of beating the crowds. Dozens of other art lovers had the same idea. The tram ride to the top of the hill was a lot of fun.
One downside to museums is that snacks and beverages are not permitted in the galleries. How else do they expect me to pacify my child so I can try to enjoy a piece of artwork or two. Every gallery is guarded by museum attendents waiting to jump on you for every little thing you do. "Sir, cameras are not allowed in this exhibit", "Ma'am you can not allow that child to have his water bottle in his stroller." Why can't they let my child have his sippy cup, it IS leak proof. I finally stumbled upon one piece by Van Gogh, my favorite artist. Irises. It was more beautiful than I imagined. Totally worth it. We made a quick stop to the children's center so Baz could unwind from his confinement to his stroller.
It was a good thing we arrived early. Upon leaving, we saw that the line for the tram ride to get to the museum was longer than most ride lines at Disneyland. I wonder what museum I will torture Baz with next?

I have a bunch of stuff to do tomorrow and we are attending Baz's first art class in the morning, so I did my 55 a day early. Instead of using a picture I found, I decided to use a picture I drew myself using oil pastels. It is my favorite work of art by my favorite artist. Enjoy

The town settled down for the night, turning out their oil lamps one by one. Securing the doors with wood planks in hopes not to hear the claws of the beast scratching against oak doors. Many prayers were said before slipping under the sheets. After all they were safe tonight, the moon was not full.

For those of you who don't live in the valley and may not know, it's a Hispanic sweet fifteen party for young ladies to celebrate their becoming a woman. The party is huge like a wedding, and just as expensive. There is a waltz involved with 15 couples and the birthday girl, and now a days the girls are doing hoochie dances as well. We had to leave early due to load rumbling music blaring from the speakers that would have caused young Baz to loose his sense of hearing.

We then spent Sunday afternoon at a crowded Chuck E Cheese. Baz thoroughly enjoyed himself

Western Heritage?

We went to the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum last weekend. It was the most modern museum I have ever been to. The "artifacts" were about 150 years old, at the oldest. There were exhibits from western TV shows and movies. The actual boots Kevin Costner wore in Dances with wolves! Wow, how historical... not! I though it was rather twisted that there were Native American artifacts there. Our forefathers took their land away. How dare that museum display Native American stuff and Cowboy stuff in adjacent exhibits. Besides that, the museum was pretty neat. Baz actually enjoyed it.

Little Bug

I don't have much to say. How could I feel like blogging with out my Aunt Susie around. She is off in Seattle, having fun without me. I must carry on... must... find the will... to blog...

Baz and I go to the library on Mondays because they have book readings and activities for kids. Monday was Bug Day at the library. Baz decorated this rock to look like a "Manly Bug", not to be mistaken with the familiar "Lady Bug". I helped a little of course, how could I resist.

I have been seeing these little devil duckies everywhere lately, on the internet and on T.V. shows. I finally found one in a toy store at Universal City Walk. He even came with a little song.

Universal City Walk

Our little family spent Saturday at Universal City Walk. The only bummer is that City Walk is right next to Universal Studios, and you get to see inside the amusement park as you walk by. It makes you wish you were going into Universal Studios instead of going to City Walk. Regardless of the heat, it was still oodles of fun.

Here is another attempt at 55 Flash Fiction Friday.

Little fish swimming in the water. One daring fish strayed from the school, searching for a bug floating along the surface of the water. Suddenly, he spots a worm. Is it too good to be true? He swims up toward the wiggling creature and wraps his fish lips around it. It was a darn fisherman.

I love STP, even though they are long gone. I love the dark sided perspective that they have on life. It inspires me to write about things I wouldn't have thought of on my own. Since I can't post my unpublished writings for fear that they will be plagerized, I must resort to STP lyrics instead. The inspiration for many of my poems.

For years, I didn't know what the song meant, so I didn't like it. Then I tried to look at it poeticly, and I understood. Now it is one of my favs.

My Little Fishy

Here is picture of mommy and little Baz. Today was his third swim class session. He looks upset in this picture, but it is just the sun in his eyes. He takes to the pool like a fish. Well he is an Aquarious, so naturally he loves the water. I just worry about getting into the pool with so many other children in it all day long. What are we swimming in? Boogers, Saliva maybe. I don't want to know. I just hope there is an adaquate amount of chlorine in that water!

When Art and I were teenagers, we both agreed that this was our song. it was so sweet and embodied all the feelings that we had for eachother when we first started dating.

We loved the line that said "if you should die before me, ask if you could bring a friend". We both said we would want eachother to do that.

Kids programming

I try not to let my son watch television that much, but he is at that age where he is really noticing what is on TV. I like to give him a taste of eucational childrens programming, but then he starts to crave it. I let him watch Teletubied a few times, and now he cries for it. He carries around his baby einstein DVD saying Dun dun (like einstein) crying for me to put it on.

A Day in the Park

Our little family decided to go to Griffith Park in Los Angeles on Sunday. We took Baz on the pony ride, the train ride and the carousel. We went to the park and then to Travel Town Museum to ride the miniature train. It was soooo much fun. It is amazing how much more fun you can have with your children, than when you did things before you had children.

Invisalign

I just got invisalign a couple weeks ago. I have always wanted braces, and I never got them like I wanted when I was young. Invisalign provides you with 20 sets of clear aligners that work like braces. I have heard some people saying that invisalign doesn't work very well. So far they are okay. It only hurts for 2 days when I switch my aligners every two weeks. I must remove them when I eat and then brush my teeth before i put them back on. So, I have cut down on my snacking between meals, which is good and bad. Good, because I need to cut down on snacking, and bad because I miss snacking. The upside to invisalign is that you can barely tell they are there, except for a small lisp that I now have. You also only have to wear them for about a year, opposed to traditional braces which are usually worn for 2 years or more, I have heard. At least I will finally have straight teeth.

Flash Fiction Friday

I wanted to put some of my poetry on my blog, but that would not be a good idea, considering almost all of my poems are unpublished. So I thought I would do something that my aunt does on her blog. She says it has to be 55 words about at least one main character and have a decipherable plot. I haven't written much since college, but I will give it a try, regardless of my unpolished writting skills.

She walked along searching for meaning in her life. She was lost and had no where to go, so she followed the path ahead of her. It ended with no sign of a continuance in her sight. Now what? How will she find her way without guidance. She is lost.

Maybe i will have better luck next week.

My Aunt does this thing on her blog called Tori Tuesday about Tori Amos. I thought I would pay tribute to my favorite band, Stone Temple Pilots, even though they have not made an album since 2002 and are broken up. I wanted to do something in memory of a band that wrote great music which inspired a lot of the poetry that I write. Here are the lyrics to my favorite song "lounge fly". This song kicked butt when I heard STP play in in concert.
